The Tunbridge Wells Foresters under 8’s Tandridge team played Selsdon at the Neville Upper Cricket Pitch on Sunday. The game ended in a 4-1 defeat for Foresters. Foresters played against probably one of the strongest sides in the Tandridge Blue league in atrocious conditions and although the game was evenly matched in the opening exchanges Selsdon opened the scoring with a long range effort. From then on the boys battled hard and created several good opportunities to level the score, however they could not find the target and went in at half time 1- 0 down. In the second half the Under 8’s continued to battle and made life difficult for their opponents, they continued to create chances but they could not beat the Selsdon Goalkeeper . As Foresters continued to push for an equaliser Selsdon doubled their advantage with a well taken second goal. By now the pitch was becoming more difficult to play on as surface water began to affect the run of the ball. The boys continued to battle hard and following a long passage of play down the left hand side Joe Pickett beat three defenders and two puddles to square the ball for Luca Nwanosike to fire home. This goal lifted the boys and they continued to press for an equaliser, the boys however were thwarted by some good saves from the keeper and also by a goaline puddle!. As the match entered the closing stages the strength of the Selsdon boys began to tell and they scored two late goals to seal their victory. Well done to the boys of both teams on a battling performance in such difficult conditions. Finally a quick mention and well done to Joe Pickett for the best aqua plane of the day. The squad for the match was as follows:- L.Caira, E.Anderberg, J.Phillips, J.Williams, M.Horlock, O.Plunkett, J.Pickett, ,R.Lawrence and L.Nwanosike. Finally, thank you to everybody who came along and supported both sides on a such a wet morning.
