The Tunbridge Wells Foresters under 9’s Tandridge Spartak team travelled to play Whytleafe on Sunday. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Due to holidays and sickness the Manager only had seven boys available for this fixture at third placed Whyteleafe. Foresters started slowly and went behind when a corner was only half cleared and the follow up shot looped into the top corner of the net. Foresters then got into the game and enjoyed the majority of the possession and missed several good opportunities to get back on level terms, Joseph Pickett struck the post and several shots were either blocked or just missed the target, however their efforts were finally rewarded when Robert Lawrence crossed the ball and a home defender handed in the box. Joseph Pickett tucked away the resulting penalty, so at half-time the scoreline was 1-1.
In the second half the Under 9’s continued to pass the ball around and began to dominate the play. The midfielders were playing well and Joseph Pickett, Matt Horlock and Fraser Abbott gave their opponents no time to settle and won virtually every challenge but they couldn’t find the breakthrough and Whyteleafe looked dangerous on the break with Luca Caria making two good saves to keep the scores level. Luke Credland and Josh Williams both had good games at the back and Robert Lawrence who played up front lead the line well. With the game entering the final stages Foresters pushed forward in search of the winner but once again they were thwarted by the home keeper and had a couple of shots which just missed the target so the game ended in stalemate at 1-1.
Well done to all the boys who ran themselves into the ground and following the half time team talk put in a superb display in the second half. The boys played some fantastic football and were unfortunate not to get a winner in a evenly contested game against a strong Whyteleafe side.
The squad for the match was as follows:-
L.Caira, L.Credland, F.Abbott, M.Horlock, J.Pickett, R.Lawrence and J.Williams.
