Whyteleafe started well and went a goal up in the first 5 minutes; a long ball effort evaded the Foresters defence to allow Whyteleafe to take the lead from close range.
Whyteleafe maintained their early dominance by going further ahead on 10 minutes after the Foresters defence failed to deal with another long ball move resulting in another close finish for the home side.
Foresters pulled a goal back on 15 minutes through a headed corner from Pickett to make it 2 – 1 at half time.
The early phase of the second half was fairly even, a slightly improved Foresters made several half chances including a shot cleared off the line. On 40 minutes the Foresters were awarded a penalty after a clumsy Whyteleafe challenge; the resulting penalty kick was well saved by the Whyteleafe keeper to maintain their slender advantage.
On 45 minutes Whyteleafe increased their lead after furtherer indecision in the Foresters defence resulted in simple tap in to make it 3 – 1.
Despite a below par Foresters performance they did fashion several half chances, the best being a fine shot from Philips matched by an outstanding save from the Whyteleafe keeper.
