The club was founded in 1985 as Ox Inn. They changed their name to The Earl Grey in 1989, and then to South Moor FC in 2007. They adopted their current name in 2016.
The club has played in a number of different leagues over the years, including the Stanley and District Sunday League and the Consett and District Sunday League. They have won the Consett and District Sunday League title twice, in 2012 and 2014.
