Away league match played on 08 December 2012.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

After being run extremely close in their last two home games normal service was resumed at Jim Evison Fields as the unfortunate Mary Dendy were put to the sword by a stellar perfomance by the league champions FC Flyers. The 11-0 score line could and possibly shouldhave been more but for some sympathetic refereeing by Dave Hanks who sparred Dendy the ignominy of their biggest ever league defeat.

Remarkably it was Dendy who started the more positive with new signingPaul Richardsonreturning for his second spell at the Great Warford club , running at the Flyers defence and forcing a series of corners in the opening four minutes . Unfortunately that was as good as it got Flyers took the lead barely a minute later as Callum Whelan’s cross found Scott McGowan unmarked at the far post and he gratefully headed the ball past Mat Robinson.Stuart Maylett doubled their lead with a rasping shot from the edge of the penalty area which flew into the top corner and he turned provider as his header back across goal five minutes later saw the enigmaticDanny Cooke beat Mat Robinson in the air and see hisheader drop over the line to make it 3-0 .

Scott McGowan made it 4-0 three minutes laterwith a delightful cushion volley at the far post from a Callum Whelan cross as again he evaded the attentions of the Dendy back four. Whelan got his third assist of the game from a corner as Robinson was sandwiched between two of his own defenders and fellto ground leaving defender Adam Greenleaves to loop a header back over Matty Martinwho was protecting the goal line . The first half action still wasn’t finished as first McGowan nipped infront of Danny Cooke to make it 6-0with a side foot finish from nine yards to complete his hat-trick and then Stuart Maylett skipped through the defence and fired low past Robinson to make it 7-0 and a miserable first half for the visitors.

One of the reasons Flyers are so successful is their will to winand despite having scored seven in the first half the players were hungry for more .Fortunately for Dendy eighteen year old winger Callum Whelan having provided four assists after already playinga game that morning for Wilmslow High School was withdrawn at half time for a well earned restbut Jack Booth ,his replacement still came on and scored making it 9-0 after McGowan repeated his trick from last week of jinking in from the right hand touch line , making space and chipping the ball over the keeper and into the far corner to make it 8-0.

Jordan Ecclestone also on as sub made it 10-0but his effort owed more to the ground conditions than any intentions of finding the net as his effort took a freak bounce which saw the ball sail high over Mat Robinson as he came out to make a routine save . Five minutes before time Scott McGowan tapped home his fifth of the match to complete a miserable day for the visitorsbut setwhat surely is an ECL record of 40 goals in eleven games for the Flyers striker. Dendy , who bloodedthree newplayers fought until the end but with a growing list of players in the treatment room they need to keep their heads up and look to the efforts of players such as captain Paul Cronshaw and full back Matty Martin to get them back on track as they face Old Alts in a league match at home next weekend.
