Lee McDonnell Club AZ(navy)and Steve Rowlands , Mary Dendy battle it out
Club AZ's Carlo Coccia puts a tough tackle in on Dan Vickers
Mary Dendy managed three goals away from home for the first time since October but still fell to a heavy 8-3defeat at the Mulberry Sports Centreto Club AZ. Two goals by striker Lee Anderson , both following assists from Chris McGarrell and well worked third by Lee McDonnell started by Lee Manion with a ball over the top of the Dendy defence and again involving Anderson has Club AZ cruising at half time . A header from Ben Davenport minutes into the second halfmade it 4-0 and Lee McDonnell made it 5-0 two minutes later . Paul Richardson who worked tirelessly up front all afternoon pulled a goal back but Ben Shawcross and a third from McDonnell made it 7-1. Dendy captain Steve Rowlands scored with a sublime free kick which sailed over Rob Ainsworth’s head and into the top corner from wide on the right touchlineto make it 7-2 but Mike Bowden made it 8-2 before Ricardson grabbed his second as he robbed possession fromthe AZ centre halfand fired powerfully past Ainsworth to make the final score 8-3.
Dave Vickers report:
Word of the week is SIMPLE keep it simple. I heard it from both teams. I was impressed with CLUB AZ they played quick simple passes very well and apart from a dodgy keeper they may be the best team i have seen this season against Dendy. It was 1-0 for quite awhile in the first half until not doing the simple thing and putting it out of play when under pressure found us 3-0 at half time. Dan Vicker...s limped off at half time (i did tell to warm up better) They were a few new faces to me today and all three got a run out. Second half CLUB AZ were clinical in their finishing and with some good play with 2 goals from PJ and a great free kick goal from man of the match for Dendy Steve the score finished 8-3 to CLUB AZ. One thing that is not as simple is getting a settled 11. I hope next week in the cup quarter final against a Bulls head a team we have beaten and drawn against this year we have a good team out and do ourselves proud.
