Congleton Town made it a clean sweep for the teams from Congleton as they eventually managed to turn possession into goals and oust Dendy from the competition. Dendy took a shock lead as early as the second minute when Peter Ibbotsen’s free kick took a deflection which sent the ball wide of goalkeeper Adam Little’s despairing dive and agonisingly into the bottom corner of the net.
Dendy held onto their lead with some resolute defending as Town forced corner after corner but just couldn’t find ther net. Amazingly it was the home team that could have doubled their advantage as again Ibbotsen shot only to see his effort rebound off the underside of the bar .
Cracks began to appear in the second half as Dendy’s defensive efforts took their toll and despite bringing on fresh legs they conceded three times in the second half each time to headers from right wing crosses . Rubin Kennerley tied the came nodding home a Josh Hadley cross on sixty two minutes and with ten minutes remaining Carl McCurrie headed the visitors into the lead. A minute before the final whistle Mc Currie turned provided flighting a pin point cross for Danny Biegus to head in to take the Bears into the next round.
