HALF TIME 1-1
The traditional Dendy end of season match for charity between the present Mary Dendy team and the Mary Dendy legends was a great day for all. The charity this year was Christies cancer charity.
All the players put 5 pound each in the pot. I put my 5 pound in even though i resisted the temptation to play. The last two times i failed to resist i damaged my right foots ligaments and the last time i broke the same ankle and did the ligaments for my third time.
Weather was cool. With a strong cool wind blowing across Dendy fields. All the poor lady fans (and the guys) found it chilly.
I looked at the teams and thought this should be close and i was to be proven right and for nearly 40 mins as neither side could break down the defences. Two good goalkeepers behind always helps.
On 39 mins a mix up between Si Lee and Perry in the Dendy goal and Legends tapped it in to the empty net. Within 2 mins a very dubious penalty was given against the legends. I think only the ref thought the foul was in the box. Up stepped a confident Si Lee to smash the ball home past an imposing Stu in the Legand net and the score was even.
1-1 at half time and in my view the Legends shaded a close first half.
Second half started how it was to be most of the half with Dendy present looking more and more likely to end the winner. It was this pressure and the difference between the teams Tommy Wake that was to tell as good play and a tremendous through ball from Cronie and it was 2-1 and then Tommy again took his chance and it was 3-1. Legends had put so much effort in and were starting to look tired when i get free kick was headed in and the Legends were back in it. Sadly for Legends a poor give away of the ball led to Dendy punishing them and making it 4-2. This how it ended. A very competitive game played in Dendy style with both sides wanting to win.
Dendy present retained the cup for the third year running against the Legends.
Food back at the ever popular Team Pub the Eggerton arms was tasty and plentiful. Black pudding bacon sausage and chips.
Matty took donkey for falling over the ball.
Wilko took man of the match by one vote to the unlucky Tom Wake who suffers from being expected to be good. To be honest he was the difference between two even teams on the day.
The Eggerton with the aid of a masterful Cronie dished out the food with out a mistake and in good time. Bravo to the staff at the Eggerton.
After a great but somewhat long history of Dendy from Manager Shep it was evident what a long and proud history Mary Dendy have it was award time.
Now lets see if i can remember
Cronie goal of the season, For his Beckham style goal.
Most donkey awards to Hammas
Top goal scorer was Scott with eight.
Best new signing was Perry in goal.
Player of the season Adam Taylor who also scooped up the award for most man of the matches.
Managers player of the year was Fronzie aka Sean
Flowers for the two Dendy ladies.
Taking the trophy i won last year for clubman of the year went to Cronie.
So another season over. A season of ups and downs. I think with the aid of Cronies love of the club was dragged by its collar back from the brink to be stronger at the end they they were at the start of the season. It was the first season in the Crewe and district saturday league in Dendy's long history.
Lastly thoughts are with the ex Dendy player fighting Cancer my the Dendy fighting and never giving up in those difficult times be with you.
