WINNINGTON AVE 4 MARY DENDY 1
H.T 1-0
The third friendly and another tough game against last years surprise league winners. When i looked at the Winnington team they looked young and strong with last years top league scorer still leading the line upfront. Dendy again struggled to have numbers and to put out a settled team. Having no goal keeper again made it a tough challenge.
The first half was tight with some nice passing from Dendy against the route one Winnington side who were relying on their forwards pace to score goals. After 10 mins poor defending by the Dendy right back being caught trying to keep the ball instead of kicking it out for safety lead to the Winnington player chipping stand in keeper Kronie to make it one nil. The rest of the first half was pretty even. Dendy struggled to support Scott again playing the loan striker role. Again Scott looked sharp and deserves more outlets up front.
half time 1-0 to a sloppy goal and Dendy were doing better then i expected. To my surprise Tom was taken off. He was playing with a problem toe and would have been ok to play the second half but once take off he began to think about his toe rather then the game and he was unable to go back on.
Second half started and within a minute Winnington had scored and it was 2-1. This rocked Dendy and within ten mins the game was 4-0 the fourth being a screamer from well outside the box giving Kronie no chance. Dendy were on the rack as they seemed to lose spirit for awhile. having little chance left of rotating players for fresh legs i feared a heavy second half defeat. Thankfully a bit of a change on the pitch with Adam moving to midfield and hammas moving to center back and Dendy with the help of Winnington not taking advantage of their strong 10 mins and the game seem to settle down to finish 4-0. That was until Adam strode forward and shot from outside the box into the top corner to score a tremendous goal, a goal that already will have a chance of goal of the season. The goal gave heart to Dendy and they continued to try hard until the final whistle.
Plus points were Dendy didn't give up. They didn't blame each other and apart from ten mins in the second half were not out played. There was nothing to fear from Winnington if we can put out a strong side in the league games.
Donkey was Spruce for subbing himself second half. I don't think Scott wanted to go back on but there wasn't many options left on the side line.
Man of the match was Hammas for taking ownership and playing at the back to release the tricky Adam into midfield.
