Match Report by Club Secretary Matt Eagles
It was all change at Mary Dendy, well almost . With several players deciding to leave the club during the December / January layoff new faces and one or two older ones were brought in to face Wilmslow Town who had put thirteen past them in their previous meeting . Club Chairman Muttley O’Neill began at right back for the hosts and used all his 52 years experience to keep winger Ben Mellor and striker Danny Cooke quiet in the opening forty minutes. Despite the visitors bossing possession they only managed to find the net twice in the opening half hour . The first , a cheeky back heel from defender Lawrence Aspinall from less than a yard out after a goalmouth scramble and the second a curling left foot shot from Scott McGowan. Two more goals followed five minutes before the break. A rasping drive from Callum Whelan and a tap in from Ben Mellor
Dendy needed to consolidate and not concede anymore early in the second half while they regained their composure but it didn’t happen . Barely two minutes after the break Ben Mellor got the slightest of touches to steer the ball past Matt Robinson to make it 5-0 and then Robinson gifted McGowan his second letting an easy ball slip through his fingers .
McGowan completed his hat-trick to make it 7-0 before referee Dave Hanks awarded a penalty when Phil Malpas fouled Ben Osbourne in the area . McGowan handed the ball to left back Tom Hunt who in five years service had never scored for Wilmslow . You wouldn’t have known as he stepped up and casually sent Robinson the wrong way .
The result was never in doubt and with Dendy down to ten men with Matt Morris going off injured and their substitute leaving without taking the pitch it was damage limitation time .
Wilmslow went onto score five more with the final score 13-0 . Scott McGowan ended the game with six , the best of which was his fifth a spectacular bicycle kick which flew into the net and Stuart Maylett and Ryan Jones completing the rout.
Match Report by Assistant Manager
Even though the scoreline looks yet again awful the only person i would be critical of today was Tim who quite rightly got donkey for going home because he was the sub. Dendy only had 12 men and he was told he would get plenty of game but that wasn't good enough and off home he went.
He will not be missed.
Dendy tried hard against a very good Wilmslow side which i t...hink will win this league comfortably and for most of the first half a very weakened Dendy side gave them a game. The second half was another story with injuries to Matt Morris on return sending Dendy down to 10 men plus injury to Phil it was only a matter of how bad it will end.
Dendy have another tough game next week against Congleton Vale in the cup. Dendy need more players quicky and quality players if they are to stop the heavy defeats.
I voted Curbo as man of the match which was won by Mutley.
Food at the Eggerton arms was sausage chips black pudding and sausage roll.
