A cool day in Sandbach for the last competitive game of the season. I could tell as soon as i saw the team we had struggled to put out a strong side. I must admit i was worried that all the hard work and good results at the end of the season were going to be spoilt by a heavy defeat at the end of the season.
My worries were not helped with only 8 mins on the clock a unmarked player scored at the back post for the second week running and Dendy were 1-0 down. A bit of bad luck and hesitant goal keeping from Perry and it was 2-0 as the ball bounced of Perry's chest in a 50/50 and the ball was put into an empty net.
An unlucky clearance from Hammas on the edge of the box ended up floating over Perry and into the net for an own goal. Another goal and at 4-0 down i feared the worse. I said to Shep we need to get their chins up at the half.
The second half and Dendy had the advantage of the wind behind their backs. A couple of players turned up late and Dendy managed to turn the game around. This wouldn't have been possible a few months ago as heads would have dropped and more goals would have been certain. Dendy changed people around and it seemed to work as Dendy started to get more joy up front. A great run by Adam and a fantastic shot from distance beat a decent Sandbach keeper and the score was 4-1. The score could have been closer as Dendy had the better of the second half. A lob from Shaun just going wide. A chance that seemed easier to score being put over the bar. The only other real chance Sandbach had was a free kick
that hit the bar.
So the end to a season of many changes. Ups and downs. Players coming and going. At the end i think Dendy have the bare bones of a good team. A good keeper who we really need to keep hold of. Some solid players. It just needs some stability and the ability to put out a decent side week in week out not just once in awhile.
Saying that it is only the hard work of Kronie that has enabled a team that was in crisis at one point of the season to finish the season with some pride and a great team spirit.
Next season promises to be an interesting one with four new teams to add to an already decent standard of league. I think Dendy will need to strengthen to compete and improve on this season.
Donkey was Roy for falling over on the the goal line.
A result of a well spilt of votes
Man of match was Boyd for a game full of passion and effort.
Food was sorted by Kronie at THE FORESTERS. For those who couldn't stay to eat, it was sausage chips and bread and butter
