On a beautiful Saturday afternoon at HV#5, the Fellas shrugged off their nightmare that was USRC and blasted back to winning ways with a well deserved 3 nil victory over Men Utd.
HV#5 was where we destroyed BOCs a month ago and interestingly, it’s also where 4 of my other teams had their biggest win in their respective leagues to date!
The first half started with Men Utd fielding only 9 players. The numerical advantage spoke for itself in the sense that we asserted our dominance all over the field and the bench was busier than Bear was in goal. Cedric and Henry absolutely terrorized the Men Utd defense with numerous clever runs (uted with pulsating speed) and superior dribbling skills. Doug launched no less than 6 pin-point cross from the tip of Men Utd’s goal area, all went unanswered by their centre back. Darryl played out of position as forward/mid-field and proved equally problematic to MenU’s defense. Kai and Howard marshaled the mid-field with authority and tactical brilliance. However, such dominance failed to deliver any goals for us as Men Utd defended with all they had, with some excellent saves made by their keeper and successive off-side trap maneuverings by their back 4. On the other end, Men Utd managed to produce a few decent counter attacks but our back 4 snuffed them out with ease. The first half ended scoreless.
MenU finally had 11 players in the second half and looked like the sharper side for the first ten minutes, Peps made an excellent save to deny their lethal no.38 from opening the score line. Shaka and Dave McLeod came on came on and immediately made impact. First up, a perfectly weighted through ball from Shaks found Cedric for a clinical finish, 1-0. Cedric scored his second not long after in a goal-mouth scramble, 2-0. With roughly fifteen minutes to go, Dave McLeod found himself on the receiving end of Shak’s second killer through ball and like Cedric, Dave buried MenU’s hopes of a comeback by calmly lobbing the ball over their advancing keeper, 3-0. Shortly after, Leo made his Goodfellas debut with explosive pace and silky skills by skinning pass four MenU players to the horror of their defense, his through ball however failed to reach his target man. MenU didn’t drop their heads and was eventually rewarded a penalty after Peps brought down their no .38 in a one on one challenge. Dubious refereeing meant that on top of conceding a penalty, Peps was also sent off with a straight red card. MenU failed to convert the penalty to our relief and Shaks deserves credit for volunteering to go in goal.
All in all, good job fellas! 3 points in the bag and we’re now coming second on the table!
