2nd from bottom at home to 3rd from bottom….
With Pants and Gay absent, Vale still managed to name a 15 man squad. Unlike last season when the team picked its self, Thompson’s team selections are now one of the highlights of the day. After playing every game for us at Center Back since he joined, Pascy finally got his chance to shine in the midfield alongside Simmo. That meant Az joined Silk in the center of defence, with Seb playing at Right back.
Having a big squad has plenty of plus points. One of these being that we put the nets up a lot quicker. So with the nets up, and everyone changed Vale had chance to have their 1st team photo for a few seasons.
The match its self took its normal form. They had the ball. We chased it. We gave it them back. We chased after it again!!
To be fair to everyone though, we all worked hard, looked fairly organised and didn’t really allow them to create much. Our strikers (Dirky and Jyla) once again had to feed off scraps. Unfortunately though, as in previous games, there is only so long you can hold a team that are dominating possession and on the hour mark, we found ourselves one down. Thompson changed things around after the goal, putting Pascy back into central defence, moving Jum into the midfield (who had come on to initially play up front) and Silk went up top to play alongside Ric. Unfortunately the comeback never came though, and before long we found ourselves 3 down. That was how it stayed and the better team certainly won.
There were a few shouts for penalties against us in the game. The first one was against Chuff for handball. It would have been harsh, but the ref did in fact put his whistle in his mouth to blow for it, only to change his mind at the last second!
The 2nd shout for a penalty saw the ref do the same again, and put the whistle in his mouth. This time he could not blow loud enough as it was possibly the most obvious penalty you will ever see. With one of their players clean through on goal, Pascy took one for the team and crunched into the back of their players legs and brought him down. The only surprise was that Pascy didn’t get sent off. He didn’t even get a yellow!!!!!!
Other points worth noting were Thompson’s goalkeeping for the 2nd goal. A ball got played through our defence and into the 18 yard box… Thompson came running out to the ball, dived on the floor, had a good look at the condition and make of the ball and decided the ball would look better without his grubby hand prints on it. Unfortunately they were not as thoughtful as our Thompa and their player used his muddy boot to take the ball around Thompa and set up their 2nd goal of the game!
