Inter State Amateur Football League
The Inter State Amateur Football League (ISAFL) is a football league for amateur players in the United States. It was founded in 1972 by a group of players who wanted to create a league that was more competitive than the typical recreational league, but without the commitment of a professional league.
The ISAFL is a member of the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). It currently has over 100 teams in 10 divisions across the country. The divisions are divided by region and skill level.
The ISAFL season runs from April to November. Teams play a 10-game regular season, followed by a playoff to determine the league champion.
History
The ISAFL was founded in 1972 by a group of players who wanted to create a league that was more competitive than the typical recreational league, but without the commitment of a professional league.
The league's first season had just 8 teams, but it quickly grew in popularity. By the early 1980s, the ISAFL had over 50 teams.
The ISAFL has continued to grow in recent years. In 2023, the league has over 100 teams in 10 divisions across the country.
Rules
The ISAFL follows the rules of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). The most notable difference between ISAFL rules and USSF rules is that the ISAFL allows for unlimited substitutions.
The ISAFL also has its own set of rules that are specific to the league. For example, the ISAFL has a rule that requires teams to have at least 3 female players on the field at all times.
Divisions
The ISAFL is divided into 10 divisions across the country. The divisions are divided by region and skill level.
The divisions are as follows:
- Northeast
- Mid-Atlantic
- Southeast
- Midwest
- Great Lakes
- Southwest
- Rocky Mountains
- Pacific Coast
- Western Canada
Each division has its own champion. The division champions then compete in a national playoff to determine the ISAFL national champion.
