MEFF #23 – I LOVE TRON 2 - 5 I HATE TRON:
Two very different playing styles clashed at last night’s MEFF, with the tippy-tappy passing of Crozier’s I HATE TRON comprehensively exploiting the space granted to them by Kieran’s long-ball merchants I LOVE TRON.
The first half was a very even affair with speculative long shots the order of the day, as Patto (in goal) tipped over raspers from Griffiths and P2, while Pete and Fletch tried their luck from distance against Gandy (Fletch looping the ball over the fence into the deepest, darkest forest). LOVE’s defending went to pot in the second half as they couldn’t get the ball out of their half, and HATE duly took advantage, with some simple but effective passing allowing Luke and Griffiths a plethora of one-on-one chances that Griffin did well to smother where possible. Spence and Crozier were fairly untroubled in the HATE goal as the attacking movement and killer pass went AWOL from LOVE’s game.
0-1: Griffiths(a hopeful ball from Crozier over the top caused confusion in the hungover LOVE defence as Patto expected Neil to put his boot through the bouncing ball, and Griffiths stuck out his foot to nudge the ball into the bottom corner)
1-1: Griffin(a long ball from Patto down the right wing found Neil on the byline after an intelligent run, and his backheel set up Griffin for a composed low finish into the bottom right corner)
Half Time
1-2:Luke (following another slick move, Griffiths fed Luke who finished smartly into the bottom left corner)
1-3:Aidan (Pete’s back-pass forced Griffin to chest the ball down, but he thought Aidan was one of his own defenders and didn’t expect a challenge, with the loose ball gleefully nudged into the empty net)
1-4:Phil G (Phil was bundled over in the box by Pete, and dispatched the penalty into the roof of the net off Griffin’s outstretched leg)
2-4:Fletch (Patto was released down the right wing, and turned his marker before playing a left-footed ball to Fletch at the back post who saw his shot hit both posts and the bar before resting in the net)
2-5:Luke (more simple passing allowed P2to feed Luke in the box, who swivelled onto his left foot and struck the ball into the top bin)
Men of the Match were Luke, who was a constant menace in attack and held up the ball well whenever HATE were in possession, and Griffin, who offered defensive cover in the first half, put away a nice goal and then was unlucky to concede four in the second half as he was offered little protection.
