Johnson Paint Trophy QF 2: A sedate MEFF saw Gandy's Morecambe progress to the semi finals at the expense of Adam's Accrington Stanley. A contentious opener from Sicky Sicky Sam Burton for Morecambe set the tone for a panicked opening half, as he made the most of some confused defending to ram a low deflected shot through 17 pairs of legs. Apart from that the first half saw few chances, although Pete denied Griffiths with his legs after a great Stanley move as they began to see more possession.
Nevertheless, the second half opened with Morecambe extending their lead as Captain Gandy hit a low corner to the front post where Dukepulled off a Kanu-esque backheel to beat Deano and Patto on the line. Accrington rallied and got a goal back when Gandy's wayward backpass played in Griffiths, who caressed a tentative shot beyond Pete's fingertips! After that, however, energy levels appeared to plummet and neither side saw much action in front of goal, with Phil holding on for the all-important win...
