MEFF #52 – THE FRILLY KNICKS 4 – 1 THE DANEPAK DRIBBLERS:
Sicky’s Squad Scores (sponsored by Experian):Phil’s Team = 8.31, Neil’s Team = 8.19. Phil should win by 2.4 goals.
In the blistering July sun, and with small midges and gnats nibbling at their ankles, the French forces of Phil Gandy’s Frilly Knicks swept aside the Lego defence of Neil’s Danepak Dribblers to claim a place in the FAECES Quarter Finals. After an untidy start, with the ball frequently lost high up in the blazing sunlight, The Frilly Knicks slowly began to work the ball to feet and make the most of their attacking players who all looked eager to run the opposition ragged. Griffiths was in one of those moods, and put away the first goal before setting up the second. Luke had a goal disallowed as Griffin had definitely hand-balled in the build up, while Griffin himself missed a good headed chance from Griffiths’ throw. At the other end Phil had far less to do than Rowan, but he did see Fletch glance a header fractionally wide, and Neil should have tapped home a volley after good work from Ash.
Despite the change of ends favouring the Dribblers for the second half, strong build-up play from Griffiths, Luke and Crozier ended with further goals for the Knicks. Daz stabbed home a consolation for the Dribblers, but Brett and Griffin marshalled well in front of Phil, restricting Kieran’s influence and allowing Aidan and the attacking trio to take the game to the opposition, forcing Rowan into a number of low saves (and brutal body-checks on Griffiths!)
1-0: Griffiths(Having seen off one attack, a loose pass in the Danepak defence fell to Griffiths on the left wing, who swept a quick shot under the stranded Rowan)
2-0: Luke(Griffiths played a ball from the left edge of the box, and Luke opened up his body to finish low across Rowan)
Half Time
2-1: Daz(Fletch fed Daz in the box who stabbed the ball beyond Phil)
3-1: Griffiths(Crozier combined with Luke before setting up Griffiths for a low finish)
4-1: Croz(Good build-up play ended with Luke tearing down the left wing before pulling back to Crozier who ran in to finish fiercely beyond Rowan
Men of the Match were Fletch, for “never giving up”, and Luke, as “he held up the ball really well and was a constant threat.”
