MEFF #74 (MEFF-A Cup First Round): Blackburn Rovers (Phil Gandy) 5 - 0 Aldershot (Brett Tooby)
Aldershot Town were handed a drubbing by the once mighty Rovers in the second MEFF-A cup tie. After a fairly even first half, Ashley Gareth Vaughan calmly opened the scoring when Matt squared to him. Crozierfound himself a little exposed in goal, and Adam Robert Brown finished off two smart moves after good work from Ash and Sicky Wonder. Despite conceding, Aldershot actually had some great chances but Allaway made some world-class saves with his arms, legs and balls to deny Patto, Dan and Brett.
The second half was much more one-sided as Captain Gandy scored straight from kick-off after poor defending, before Sam Burton made sure of the win when he stabbed home a loose corner. Aldershot stepped up the pressure in the last ten minutes but Porty and Sicky defended stoutly to defend their goal, although Brett, Luke, Griffin and Crozier all came close. The match ended in controversy when Aldershot won a penalty after shorts were tugged in the area. Luke stepped up but sent his fierce strike into Allaway's clutches, leaving Rovers with a clean sheet that Colin Hendry would've been proud of!
Blackburn go through, Aldershot head back to the Recreation Ground to concentrate on the league!
