World Cup Game 2: Patterson's Red Hot Chiles pulled off a 3-1 win against Fletcher's Algerian legion in yet another sizzling World Cup clash (this tournament really has got all the makings of a classic...!) With Croziermaking the numbers interesting, Chile had to play the first half with one less man and the blinding sun in their eyes, but took a lead into half time by being both ruthless and massively fortunate in front of goal. A composed Gandy volleyed home Sicky's cross from the right to open the scoring, before Deano's low cross was turned home for an own goal by Crozier amidst the box-based confusion. At the other end Pete and then Patto had little to do in goal, although Patto did have to pat away a rasping Aidan shot, while Griffin and Neil saw efforts deflected wide after good work from Fletch.
With Crozier changing allegiances at half time, Chile tried to ram home the advantage and kill off the game with some slick passing by Dan and Neil in particular, but resolute defending from Tooby and Rowan and some smothering saves from SuBo kept the scores unchanged. Eventually Pete worked his way down the left, and squared for an unmarked Patto to shoot across SuBo for the third. Algeria still had their chances as Fletch, Kieran and Rowan linked up on the counter-attack, and their persistence paid off when Tooby raced through a motionless defence onto a great weighted pass to prod under Crozier from a tight angle.
