Johnson Paint Trophy Game 2: Patterson claimed revenge for Champions League Final defeat last month as his new Bristol City team won a tense encounter 2-1 against Sicky Sam's Shrewsbury Town. Luke opened the scoring when Patto flicked Rowan's throw into his path, and he nutmegged two defenders and the keeper with a cheeky low shot. The Robins were soon two up when Brett found Patto with a fantastic diagonal cross, and the ball was headed into the path of Griffin who scooped into the net. The Shrews had chances but luck wasn't on their side, with Spencer coming particularly close with a shot that hit both posts before rolling safe!
The second half saw City resort to defending their lead as Sicky struck within minutes of the restart, latching on to Spence's throw/flick and volleying beyond Pete in goal. However Town couldn't find the equaliser, with Patto blocking Fletch's shot on the line and Pete patting away several fierce shots from Fletch and Crozier, while at the other end Brett almost sealed the win with a thunder-toe-poke that ricocheted off the angle of the post.
My MOM for Shrewsbury was Spence, who set up the goal and kept his team going, and was unlucky not to claim a goal of his own.
