MEFF #47 – JUBILEE JESTERS vs. BRADLEY’S BRUISERS:

Starting with 6-a-side as Griffiths and Crozier were late to the ball, Bradley’s Bruisers got off to flying start against the Jubilee Jesters thanks to a series of defensive mistakes. Once 7-a-side was restored, the Jester’s tried their hardest to get back into the match, but strong marshalling from Spence and Sicky, along with a composed goalkeeping performance from Pete, prevented any serious breakthroughs, while Griffiths notched up a hat-trick of his own for the Bruisers as he was backed up well by his team-mates.

The heat and low sun affected both teams with misjudged shots going awry due to shadows, but both Pete and Rowan had to deflect a number of low shots away when they did make the target. In the end the energy and dominant possession of the Bruisers won them the game as the Jesters toiled to follow their men.

0-1: Luke(Rowan’s misjudged throw fell to Luke who swept the ball into the far corner)

0-2: Spence(a counterattack by the Bruisers ended with Luke drawing the Jesters defenders before teeing up Spence, who sidefooted into the goal)

0-3: Griffiths(a good team move started by Pete ended with an unchallenged Spence feeding Griffiths who bundled the ball in off the left post)

1-3: Crozier(Phil’s backpass to Pete was intercepted by a sliding Crozier who smashed the ball into the net)

Half Time

1-4: Griffiths(Sicky’s corner found Griffiths making an excellent run to the front post, where he half-volleyed a direct strike)

1-5: Spence(Phil G raced down the right wing before seeing his thunderous shot rebound off the right post. The Jesters defence were slow to react, and Sicky had time to shoot the ball back across goal where Spence was on hand to tap the ball into the net)

1-6: Griffiths(Strong wing-play from Phil G ended with his cross/shot finding Griffiths unmarked at the back post, and he couldn’t miss from 1 yard – HAT-TRICK)

2-6: Brett(A drawn-out corner routine between Ash and Brett ended with the latter smashing a shot towards goal that Pete could only slice into the top bin)

Men of the Match were Brett, “for his audacious long range attempts”, and Griffiths, for “good goals and lots of running.”
