Johnson Paint Trophy Game 8: In a MEFF that had more bad touches than a 1970s edition of Top of the Pops, Coventry City (captained byGriffin in Rowan's absence) needed penalties to win a character-building match against Tooby's stubborn Fleetwood Town. Gandy opened the scoring for Fleetwood when he bundled home the ball through a sea of defenders after good work from Dan, before Ashleyequalised for City when he smashed home Luke's pass from the right wing. Crozier then slid in unmarked at the back post to finish off Fletch's cross with his knees to give Fleetwood the lead once more, but the Sky Blues hit straight back when Hibbert struck from distance, with the wayward shot deflecting off Deano before nutmegging Phil on the line.
After an early half time (so Brett could call a taxi and fetch the balls he'd orbited over) the game opened up, and it took another own goal (this time from Ash) to give Fleetwood the lead once more when he headed Brett's throw over the on-rushing Pete into an empty net. To their credit Coventry then besieged the Fleetwood goal, and Luke eventually fed Chibbert for a sublime team effort, but a fourth and decisive goal never came for either team, despite Fletch and Cropier both having the opportunity to lob Pete from halfway!
The game ended all square, so once again penalties were hastily organised... Neil unfortunately missing the decisive penalty, given Coventy City a route into the next round.
