Another Monday night league match and we bounced back from the weekend defeat with a thumping victory to keep ourselves in contention for the league title. We had a few players missing for this one for various reasons and were dealt a massive blow when Broony was injured in the warm up, which effectively rules him out for the remaining games of the season. Dondo replaced him in the sticks.
Dondo
Toshy, Tam, Fyffee, Hutchy
Ecky, Craig M, Ryan, Darren
Liam, Scotty
Subs; McBee, Craig S, Millsy
With three points a must in this match we could not have got off to a worse start as they took the lead in the opening minutes after Ryan was caught on the ball in midfield and the Springers player smashed a 25 yard shot into the net. Playing against the wind we were under pressure in the opening exchanges but we were defending really well and held out from going further behind. We got the equaliser 15 minutes into the game when Scotty got on the end of Ryan’s through ball to lob the keeper. Once we got ourselves in front from Ryan’s penalty after a hand-ball in the box there was only going to be one winner. Ecky made it three with a bullet header from Ryan’s corner kick. Liam then had a chance to make it four but his well struck shot came off the post.
HT 1-3
In the second half with the wind at our backs the floodgates opened as we rattled in another TEN goals in 45 minutes. Scotty and Ecky both got another 2 each to complete their hat-tricks, and Darren hit a second half hat-trick of goals and assists in an impressive display by the big man. Liam also got 2 of the goals but he was to be denied his hat-trick also as he hit the post for the second time of the game. Tam also got on the score sheet scoring his first goal for the club. We did concede a couple of soft goals in the second half but the game was well and truly won by this stage as we got back to winning ways in style to restore our confidence.
