The second group game of the Adamson Cup and after drawing the opening game we had to win this one to have a chance of progressing to the quarters. Thistle were one of our fierce rivals last season in the 1st division and despite doing the league double against them last season, they pipped us to promotion on the final day. A few changes were made from the previous match with Kris away on his honeymoon, Deano and Jamie in Glasgow and Ryan injured, replaced by Millsy, Darren, Finlay and Mitch as we started with a 4-1-3-2 formation.

We started brightly and for the opening 10 minutes they were struggling to get out their own half as we piled on the pressure with a couple of decent chances on goal. They gradually came back into the game though and began to apply the pressure with a couple of good saves from James keeping the scores level. At the other end Mitch was denied by a brilliant stop from the keeper from his 20yard free-kick attempt. We then took the lead when Sharpy got on the end of McBee’s corner to head home. For the remainder of the first half though we never threatened the goal again and were put under pressure but held out to go in at half time ahead.
HT 1-0
For the standards we have set ourselves the second half was very poor and we conceded some soft goals as they scored five in the second half without reply to ease to victory. Tam missed a second half spot kick which summed up our day.
FT 1-5
A defeat which means we cannot now qualify from the group and although the final group game against Hawkhill is now meaningless in terms of qualifying, Wednesday can’t come quick enough for all the players and management as we look to bounce back from this disappointment and prove that this was a one off result.
