The quarter finals of the George McArthur Cup and we came into the match as firm favourites to progress to the semi-finals. A few of the boys were still feeling the effects of the weekend after the engagement party and this showed in the first half before we eventually ran out comfortable winners. Broony and Goggles were both injured at Saturday’s training session which meant Dondo came into the sticks.
Dondo
Millsy, Tam, Sharpy, Finlay
Craig S, Ryan, Fyffee, Hezy
Ecky, Scotty
Subs; McBee, Marc Mitchell, Craig Mitchell, Toshy, Darren
Ecky started up front and repaid the manager with two early goals. The first he showed great strength to hold of the defender before firing into the bottom corner. His second was a terrific solo effort as he picked the ball up 20 yards out and smashed a brilliant strike into the net. It looked as though Ecky would get his hat-trick after scoring two early goals but he was then forced off injured. We then seemed to stop playing and they got two quick fire goals to level up the match. Just before half-time we regained the lead with the goal coming from Craig Stewart.
HT 2-3
We were under a bit of pressure at the start of the second half but we then started to turn the screw and once Scotty restored the two goal lead there was only going to be one winner. Ryan then made it 5 scoring from the edge of the box with the LEFT foot. McBee then scored from the penalty spot before the impressive Craig Stewart grabbed his second of the match getting on the end of McBee's corner at the back post to wrap up the scoring and send us into another semi- final.
