After losing our first league match of the season last week we knew we had to bounce back with a victory as we took on Ferry Mechanics who were relegated from the premier league last season. It was a great response from all the players with a great performance and another clean sheet to stay joint top of the league. The gaffer went with a 4-4-2 formation with Lindsay partnering Ecky up front.
James
Gareth, Sharpy, Tam, Kris
Darren, Ryan, Deano, Finlay
Lindsay, Ecky
Subs; Craig, Bogger, Millsy
Lindsay was playing up front for the first time in an AC Harleys shirt and it took him just under ten minutes to get his name on the scoresheet. Tam played a great ball up the park to Darren and he crossed the ball from the right for Lindsay to score with a great header. The second goal came soon after when Darren got on the end of Ryan’s through ball and he cut inside and lobbed the ball over the keeper. Deano then got his first of the game after another great ball up the park from Tam to score. We could have added more before the half as we looked like scoring with every attack, and should have made it four right on half time after being awarded a penalty. Ecky stepped up to take it but he became the FIFTH player to miss from the spot this season after the keeper saved it.
HT 0-3
With a comfortable half time lead, we did take our foot off the gas a bit at the start of the second half and allowed our opponents a bit more of the ball. We then upped the tempo again and big Sharpy made it 4-0 as he bundled the ball into the net at the back post following Finlay’s corner. Deano then got his second of the game as he scored at the back post after another great delivery from Finlay. Then in the dying minutes Deano completed his hat-trick after we were awarded another penalty he stepped up and coolly slotted it away to cap off a fine display.
