Back to league business and a real 6 pointer against one of our promotion rivals Camperdown. We went into the match with the league title in our own hands but after losing our second match in a row for the first time this season, we now have to rely on results elsewhere to become champions. The gaffer went with a 3-1-4-2 formation to start the game.
Goggles
Fyffee, Tam, Sharpy
Craig M
Craig S, McBee, Ryan, Finlay
Mitch, Ecky
Subs; Darren, Bogger, Scotty, Toshy
We started the match with a high tempo and were the better team for the majority of the first half. The best of the first half chances fell to Ecky as he got one on one with the keeper, he got his shot away but the keeper made a fine save then he agonisingly put the ball past the post from the re-bound. Finlay and Mitch also had decent efforts in the opening half hour but both went just past the post.
HT 0-0
Camperdown grew in confidence after our missed chances in the first half and they took the lead early in the second half. We hit back soon after though to level the game up, when after Mitch was fouled inside the box he stepped up to score from the penalty spot to score his 40th goal of the season. No one could then have predicted what was about to unfold next as we capitulated in a 15 minute spell although the referee did play a big part in the proceedings. They took the lead when the midfielder won the ball out left and crossed in for the striker to score, but he was a yard offside which the referee failed to see. They made it three when a mix up at the back allowed them in to score. If there was a hint to offside to the second goal, the fourth was unbelievable as the striker was at least 3 yards offside as he raced through on goal and rounded Goggles to put the game beyond us. They then added a fifth as we chased the game. Some of the decision made by the referee were infuriating us on the pitch and Mitch was punished for this as he was red carded for foul and abusive language which now means the big man will miss our next two vital league games and the cup final after receiving a three match ban.
