Another league game against one of our promotion rivals and going into the match we were still in with a shout at the league title. It is that tight between the top four though that after losing we are now out of the title race and promotion is now no longer in our hands. The gaffer made a couple of changes from Monday’s match with Goggles coming back into the goal, the versatile Craig Stewart into centre half and McBee returning into centre midfield.
Goggles
Craig M, Craig S, Tam, Hutchy
Ecky, Ryan, McBee, Darren
Liam, Scotty
Subs; Fyffee, Hezy, Sharpy, Millsy, Toshy
We started the match brightly and were the better team in the opening exchanges, but we went behind after a rare mistake from Hutchy as he lost the ball on the left and their midfielder raced down the wing before crossing into the box for the striker to tap the ball into the net. We then lost Craig Mitchell to an injury and he was replaced by Fyffee with Craig Stewart moving to right back. In a tight first half we were still creating the better of the chances but went in at half time behind.
HT 1-0
The start of the second half went the same way as the first with us playing the better but they were looking dangerous on the break. We have the best scoring record in the league this season but we were struggling to create any clear cut chances against Guardbridge with the best defensive league record. They then effectively wrapped the game up from the penalty spot after McBee was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. We still pressed in the closing stages but couldn’t find a way through as we failed to score for the first time in all competitions this season.
