On a hot sunny afternoon, FC Lakeside were looking to register their first three points of the season after the disappointment on the opening day.
Lakeside managed keep hold of the ball for the first two minutes without Swindon Village getting a touch. The passing and movement starting from the back four, with Liam Powell, Harry Mansell, Sam James and Josh Pugh was an early indication of how Lakeside were going to play their football. In the 10th minute, Lakeside were awarded a free kick when Luke Hitchman was fouled on the edge of the box. The well worked free kick between Luke Hitchman and Cameron Smith saw Cameron’s effort fly into the back of the net. Despite playing great football, in particular using wingers Elliot Harris and Budd Nicholson, it wasn’t until the 35th minute until Lakeside doubled their score, when Cameron found Bradley Barnard in the box to tap home his second goal for Lakeside.
In the second half, it wasn’t long until Lakeside extended their leader further, with Cameron calmly slotting in a penalty, after a foul on Bradley. In the 48th and 52nd minute the ever-impressive Luke Hitchman scored two cracking goals both in the top corner. In the 61st minute, the newly formed partnership of Pat Sheerin and Bradley Barnard saw good work from the debuting Pat, who provided Bradley to fire home into the bottom corner, leaving the keeper no chance. The lakeside manager was soon in a position to use all five subs, with Will Norman, Freddie Wellfair, Mike Lloyd and Luke Robson all playing their part. Swindon Village claimed a well-taken consilation goal with only two minutes remaining, before the long serving Harry Mansell was on hand to add a seventh for Lakeside after a bad goal kick from the Swindon Village keeper. Lakeside goalkeeper Rob Jones had a quiet afternoon, but his distribution of the ball was very good, on a day where each and every player gave 100%.
