Away league match played on 29 March 2009.
Kicked off at 2:30 AM

Following Lakesides convincing 9-0 win over Cirencester Town, which saw Lakeside book themselves a cup final date at Whadden Road, Lakeside returned to league action, looking to finish the season in their highest ever league position. Lakeside were going into today’s fixture knowing that one point would guarantee them runners up spot in the league.

Lakeside were creating the better chances early on and were unlucky to see chances from Simon Brady, Cameron Smith, Luke Hitchman and Will Norman all miss the target. Lakeside, with the amount of possession and chances created, could not believe they were going into the break with a 0-0 scoreline.

Cleeve Colts came out in the second half and stared to apply pressure to the visiting side. The home side were soon rewarded a free kick after a handball from Alex Mcpherson. The resulting free kick was delivered into the box with pinpoint accuracy, allowing the Cleeve striker to head home from six yards.

Lakeside responded as they had done all game, by dominating the play and putting the home side under increasing pressure. Lakeside substitutes Luke Robson, Ben Simpson, Liam Gould and Elliot Harris all came on in an attempt to find, what would become, a fully deserved equaliser. With Cleeve under increasing pressure in the final minutes, Cleeve had their goalkeeper to thank after denying Alex Pike, Cameron Smith and Luke Robson in the final stages. Lakeside, after being denied a share of the points, were going into next weeks fixture with Forest Green hoping to consolidate a second place finish.
