FC Lakeside, having to change venues after Saturday’s torrential rain found themselves playing on a perfect pitch at Kingsmead School looking to maintain their impressive league form.
Lakeside were in for a tough afternoon against Cleeve Colts, with both teams playing in strong windy conditions. Lakeside started well; keeping the ball on the ground and passing the ball around with confidence. Dominating the play, Lakeside saw a couple of chances going just wide, but in the 14th minute a ball from Cameron Smith picked out Simon Brady, whose pace and strength took him passed two defenders before tucking the ball passed the keeper.
Lakeside continued to work hard and were having great success down the left hand side and soon took advantage of this possession when Will Norman supplied the inform Simon Brady who was on hand to finish. Five minutes later it was the turn of Eliott Harris to turn provider as his corner kick found Budd Nicholoson who was able to give Lakeside a 3-0 lead.
When called upon, the Lakeside back four defended with great resiliance, breaking up anything Cleeve Colts tried to create. On the stroke of half time it was Simon who found Will Norman running in at the back post to tap in from a couple of yards out, giving Lakeside a deserved 4-0 lead at half time.
Cleeve Colts came out in the second half and were starting to commit some late tackles and in a moment of madness saw Simon foul a player from behind to earn himself a yellow card.
Lakeside continued to play some of their best football of the season, with some great tackling and passing from their captain Luke Hitchman which helped Lakeside to maintain control of the game. The move of the game came in the 67th minute when Luke Robson’s perfectly timed pass found substitute Ben Simpson who hit a terrific low shot into the bottom corner to claim his first goal for Lakeside. What made this a special result was Lakeside’s solid defensive display, which did not allow Cleeve Colts a single shot on target. A great result and a well disciplined display- Well done lads!
