Lakeside were going into this league fixture looking to better their previous result against Badsey, the only side to beat Lakeside this season. The early stages saw both sides sharing possession, however it was Lakeside who took an early lead, when Budd Nicholson put in Kurt Burrows, who made no mistake with his finish. Lakeside continued to compete with the hosts, however both sides were cancelling each other out. Lakeside were finally rewarded for their efforts in the 24th minute as Cameron Smith found Bradley Barnard, who unleashed a cracking strike from outside the box to give Lakeside a two goal lead. Two minutes later, the in-form Budd Nicholson played a first time ball played to Kurt Burrows, who preceded to beat two defenders before slotting the ball underneath the keeper for his second goal of the game. With Lakeside in the ascendancy, some good teamwork led to Luke Hitchman supplying Kurt Burrows, who was able to complete his second hat trick for Lakeside. Luke Hitchman was again involved in the 35th minute, as his direct run led to him being fouled just outside the box. Cameron successfully dispatched the resulting free kick leaving the keeper no chance. On the stroke of half time, the hard working Badsey found themselves grabbing a consolation goal, meaning that Lakeside were going into half time with a 5-1 lead.
Lakeside were going into the second half looking to maintain the effort and determination they had shown in the first half, as well as, the clinical finishing that had saw them score five goals against a quality Badsey side. Lakeside started well and were soon able to regain their five goal lead, as Sam James was the quickest to react in a packed goalmouth to poke home Lakeside’s sixth. Lakeside, in a position to take off the hardworking front pair Bradley and Kurt, introduced Craig and Jem into the game. Lakeside continued to play the ball around freely and were able to add a seventh in the 65th minute as Sam linked up with Budd, who went on to score from a tight angle. Luke Hazard’s introduction, along with the fresh legs of Jem and Craig, saw chances continuing to coming thick and fast, however some very dubious offside decisions stopped Lakeside from scoring far more goals. Lakeside’s patience paid off when in the 77th minute, Jem completed the scoring after some neat footwork and accomplished finish. Despite the scoreline, this was not a one sided game as Badsey played their part and did pose a threat to Lakeside, however, on the day Lakeside’s football and finishing was of the top quality.
