Lakeside entertained Badsey Rangers in a tough opening league game. The first five minutes saw both sides settling into their strides, with Lakeside including three new additions in the starting eleven. Lakeside were hit in the 7th minute with a crushing blow when last seasons ever present Liam Powell received a nasty gash, which required hospital treatment. With lakeside trying to adjust at the back, Badsey took full advantage and lobbed the on-rushing keeper to take a 1 – 0 lead. Lakeside began to dominate and played great football, creating many chances with attempts either going narrowly wide or well saved by the Badsey keeper. Rob Jones was called into action in 32nd minute and made a good save with his feet. Lakeside were rewarded with their efforts in the 39th minute, when Luke Hitchamn found Bradley Barnard in space, who then hit a cracking shot to register his first goal for lakeside.

In the second half, Badsey were fortunate to take the lead after keeper Rob Jones had made a great save, only for a player in an offside position to tap home the rebound. Lakeside’s hardwork and determination to play great football seemed to show, however, Lakeside seemed to find the Badsey keeper in the form of his life. Harry Mansell pushed up front in an attempt to pull back a goal and was denied by the keeper on two occasions, after outpacing the Badsey defence. Lakeside were dealt another blow when the referee awarded a penalty for obstruction, which was put away carmly by the Badsey player. Lakeside continued to pressurise the Badsey back five, but Badsey held firm to register their first 3 points of the season. Although a disappointing result, the effort and commitment was outstanding.
