After taking a break from league fixtures, FC Lakeside took on Cleeve Colts Rovers in the preliminary round of the league cup.

Lakeside started well and it wasn’t long before the in-form winger Will Norman set up the first chance of the game, with Simon Brady scoring a first time strike. Good work from the right side of midfield by Eliott Harris saw Simon Brady on hand to score his second from inside the box. Will Norman’s first time shot minutes later provided Lakeside with a well deserved 3-0 lead after only fourteen minutes. In the 21st minute Budd Nicholson’s pinpoint cross was met by the head of Sam James, who was on hand to score a cracking header to claim his first goal for Lakeside. Two minutes later Alex Pike, on one of his many attacking runs from full back, found Will Norman out on the left to score his second of the game. With Lakeside in complete control of the game, continued to create a host of chances and went into halftime with a fully deserved 5-0 lead.

Although going into the second half 5 – 0 down, Cleeve Colts Rovers continued to work hard and forced Rob Jones into making a couple of good saves. Luke Robson, replacing the busy Will Norman five minutes into the second half, did not take long to register his second goal of the season after some good work by Cameron Smith. Simon Brady completed his hat trick with a long ranged effort eight minutes later. Two minutes later Simon was on hand again to tap into an empty net, after Luke Robson had lobbed the on-running keeper. Stand in captain Cameron Smith wrapped up the scoring with a fantastic free kick from 25yards out. Special mention for the Cleeve Colts Rovers keeper who made some fantastic saves throughout the game.
