It was time for Lakeside to turn their attention to the league cup 1st round at Beeches in what was expected to be another tough game after Lakesides 3-1 victory in the league. Lakeside got off to a flying start when in the 2nd minute Louis Hyde’s ball was played to Kurt Burrows who after some fine work put Lakeside 1-0 up with a fine shot into the bottom left-hand corner. With the wind playing a major part, Lakesides defence found themselves under considerable pressure and failing to clear a simple ball led to Josh Pugh’s clearance hitting the roof of the net in the 12th minute to level the score. Lakeside regained the lead in the 18th minute when good work on the left-hand side saw Liam Powell racing into the box to meet Kurt’s cross, leaving the keeper with no chance from 6 yards out. The game became very scrappy spectacle but one player in particular; Nathan Cross, was a thorn in the Beeches side. Nathan was breaking up all the midfield play.
The second half saw the wind in Lakesides favour which meant Beeches were under the cosh for long periods. In the 70th minute the game was finally wrapped up when Louis Hyde’s well timed pass was picked up by Kurt who beat the on rushing keeper. Beeches threw everything at Lakeside in the last 10 minutes and had a few near misses, with Rob Jones on hand in the final minute to make a fine save low down to push the ball around the post. The boys hard work meant that Lakeside were into the next round of the cup following this 3-1 cup win.
