On a bitterly cold afternoon, FC Lakeside were looking to bounce back after their first defeat of the season in the County Cup. Lakeside were looking to maintain their 100% league record against Forest Green Rovers. Lakeside took control instantly and were knocking the ball around really well on a wide pitch. Lakeside were creating plenty of chances and dominating the play after near misses and great saves by the Forest Green keeper. Lakeside finally got their reward in the 21st minute when Will Norman whipped in a ball behind the defence for Luke Hitchman to poke home. In the 28th minute Simon Brady’s cross-come shot found Rob Jones on hand to tap in. On a strong run, Will Norman managed to get a cross in which was bundled over the line by a Forest Green player, making it 3-0 to Lakeside. On the stroke of half time Rob Jones was on hand to volley in from inside the 6-yard box.
The start of the second half saw Forest Green provided with a bit of good fortune as their only chance of the game managed to lob keeper Liam Gould, after a long ball from the Forest Green defence. The impressive Simon Brady was on hand to score two goals in the space of 8 minutes, before the introduction of a few substitutes. Lakeside captain Luke Hitchman scored two goals in the last 5 minutes, giving him a well-deserved hat trick after a hard working display. Super-sub Steve Brown was also on hand to score his 1st of the season, after seeing a previous goal disallowed. A good performance in what could have been a potentially difficult fixture.
