A strong performance from an improving BBOB team in the J W Whitingham Jubilee cup second round, and a satisfying win against a team BBOB have never beaten. Sam Hamberger started his second game for BBOB at centre back alongside man of the match Adam Leaver. Centre forward Matt Barton returned from suspension to bolster BBOB's attack.
It was the perfect start from BBOB, with Lee (Chief) Madigan scoring after just three minutes with a diving header and Matt Barton also scoring a headed goal in the seventh minute. BBOB took complete control of the game once it had settled, creating some good attacking football but failed to score a third before PHS struck back. From the twentieth minute PHS had their best spell of the game, putting BBOB under pressure and they reduced the deficit from close range in the 32nd minute. Howard Lloyd was booked for dissent shortly after this.
BBOB replied perfectly in the 39th minute with arguably the best goal of the match, strike partners Matt Barton and Chief linked up well, this time Chief supplying Matt with a perfect cross for him to place his header back across the keeper into the net. The fourth goal came from a corner, taken by Ryan Satterley, PHS failed to clear and Chief finished from close range. Just before half time Matt Barton made it five, slotting the ball in from 12 yards after some great build up play. Half-time 5-1.
BBOB started the second half slowly and allowed PHS back into the game, and after a series of corners PHS were able to score their second! Four minutes later a scuffed long range effort from Howard Lloyd was fumbled into the net by the PHS keeper to surely complete BBOB's progression to the next round! Despite this, PHS continued to press and again from a corner were able to score their third a header by their unmarked captain at the far post.
The four goal lead was restored when Matt Barton chased a long ball down the left and cut it back to right back Paul Barton (completely out of position!), the keeper saved his first effort, his second effort hit the post and from the follow up Chief buried it from six yards!
Ryan Satterley was replaced by Lee O'Hare (who was returning from injury) and Ben Wheatland replaced Howard Lloyd in the 80th minute.
