BBOB put the opening day's performance behind them with a solid display against Southwick Rangers and a very convincing second half performance. Player manager Steve Maskell remained in goal in the absence of regular keeper Craig Watson, Fletcher Elliott started at right midfield and Tom Marshall made an impressive BBOB debut in central midfield. Jac Edwards started at left midfield and Dan Buchanan replaced the injured (in training) Ryan Satterly at left back.
BBOB started the game well and forced some early chances but managed to concede the first goal of the game on 7 minutes after a mix up at the back resulted in a well hit Rangers shot flying into the top corner beyond the reach of the BBOB keeper.
BBOB struck back almost immediately from a well worked break down the right found Lee (Chief) Madigan in space and his cross was converted from close range by Jamie Eade. BBOB continued to control the game and maintain their passing game. Chances were created and left winger Jac Edwards caused no end of problems for the Rangers defence. The best chance fell to Jamie Eade, who broke on goal but was only able to hit the side netting.
In the 26th minute and against the run of play, BBOB conceded a weak free kick on their right hand side and the resulting diagonal free kick managed to evade everyone and bounce into the BBOB net.
Once again BBOB managed to equalise quickly, this time Jamie Eade provided the goal for Chief, after again breaking clear and firing in a cross into the Rangers six yard box, chief redirected the ball back across the keeper into the net! Howard Lloyd was booked for dissent shortly before half time.
Half time 2-2.
BBOB were confident that they could win this game and although it took some time their growing confidence showed as they brushed the young Southwick Rangers team aside with ease! In the 52nd minute Fletcher Elliott was replaced by Stuart Burgess at right midfield. Shortly afterwards Jamie Eade was booked for lunging in on the Rangers keeper!
Jamie Eade could have already had a hat-trick before he grabbed his second and gave BBOB the lead in 69th minute. A good BBOB passing sequence found Jamie Eade with space 12 yards from goal and he stuck his left foot effort just past the Rangers keeper into the net. An embarrassing celebration followed from the centre forward, which involved the removal of his shirt, and he was lucky to stay on the pitch. I am presuming the referee took one look and immediately took pity on him!
The result could have been thrown away ten minutes later when midfielder Howard Lloyd played a long back pass to BBOB keeper Steve Maskell, who still believing the year was 1974 decided to pick the ball up! The resulting Ranger's free kick was blocked and then cleared and the apparent danger was gone!
The result was put beyond Southwick Rangers in the 91st minute, when Chief robbed the ball from a Ranger's defender and ball fell kindly to Jac Edwards who buried his effort from the edge of the area. Two minutes Jamie Eade finally got a deserved hat-trick (could have had two!) after some neat control and firing a fierce diagonal shot beyond the Rangers keeper! Thankfully the shirt stayed on this time!!
A much improved performance from BBOB this week.
