BBOB started the New Year slowly and after about ten minutes found themselves camped deep in their own half! Deans Dynamos have been struggling all season and BBOB beat them 9-1 last time out, so perhaps the early casual approach by BBOB could be understood. After 11 minutes BBOB, with their first attack, took the lead with Lee (Chief) Madigan slotting the ball in off the post after a gathering a through ball from Matt Barton. After this the game settled and after some missed chances, Lee Madigan put BBOB further ahead from close range, with Matt Barton again the provider.
With five minutes to half time BBOB won a corner, Craig Watson's corner found an unmarked Matt Barton, who's header made it three and five minutes later on the stroke of half time Lee Madigan turned provider, with a perfect ball to Midfielder Chris Thomas, who placed the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Half time 4-0.
Left midfielder Alexi Shrimpton, starting his first game of the season, was replaced at half time by Fletcher Elliott.
In the second half BBOB again started the slower and allowed Dean Dynamos back into the game! After a string of corners and pressure, a misplaced pass from right back Paul Barton allowed their forward a chance on goal, he placed a perfect shot into the top right hand corner past goalkeeper Tom Jackson.
BBOB responded perfectly two minutes later with their fifth goal of the game, a long ball from midfielder Howard Lloyd set up Lee Madigan for his hat-trick. At this point veteran centre back Mark Trott, playing only his second game of the season was replaced by Sam Hamberger.
Deans Dynamos reduced the deficit to 2-5 in the 72nd minute when again a defensive mix up led to a close range effort dropping over the BBOB goal line. In the 81st minute BBOB conceded a third goal, when Dynamos won a free kick on the edge of the BBOB area, BBOB failed to clear the kick and the ball found a Dynamo forward, who made no mistake from one yard.
Shortly after this Chris Thomas picked up an injury (he had just missed an open goal, so shame may have been the real reason for his early exit!!) and was replaced by Ben Wheatland, and just as BBOB were contemplating a difficult final ten minutes of the game, a cross from left back Ryan Satterley found Lee Madigan unmarked at the far post to make the score 6-2 and his tally to four for the afternoon.
Chief then turned provider again, this time flicking the ball into Ben Wheatland's path who calmly finished from 12 yards. An eighth goal seemed likely when a similar attack found Matt Barton one on one with keeper but he completely misplaced his shot, firing the ball wide of the Dynamo’s post! Full time score 7-3.
A strange game, but an essential three points for BBOB, who are still hoping and more than capable of a top half finish!!
