Following last week’s disappointing performance BBOB started well attacking the Hangleton defense down both flanks. In the 13th minute following several BBOB throw-ins on our right Hangleton collected a loose ball and broke down their left and had a header on goal which was easily collected by Mike in goal. The ball was played up field to Ben whose shot on goal just went past their keeper. A through ball to Dan Buchanan allowed him to run at the Hangleton defense but it was ruled offside by the assistant referee. A minute later saw Jac and Joe Marshall combine on our right, the ball was played to Ben who hit it towards goal, their keeper fumbled the ball H tried to put the ball into the net but Joe Marshall got the final touch, 0-1. Jac concede a free kick on the Hangleton left, they played the ball towards our far post where their header was plucked out of the air by Mike. Ben was fouled just inside the Hangleton half, Dan Edwards took the free kick, played it into the Hangleton penalty are where it was cleared away allowing them to break down their right, they shot on goal but it went wide to the left of Mike. BBOB concede a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the centre of our penalty area, the ball was lofted high into our area and headed by a Hangleton player who had run back from an offside position. The wind and the condition of the pitch was not helping in good football being played, H had a shot halfway in the side Hangleton half but the wind caught it and took it wide to the left of their goal. Steve was playing at left back this week, Hangleton attacked him, he cleared the ball for a throw-in which was quickly taken allowing them to shoot on goal but it went wide. Shortly afterwards Hangleton were awarded a free kick on their right but their kick was cleared away by H. Dan Edwards took a free kick on our right, played it into the Hangleton penalty area only for them to clear it away. BBOB started the second half where they left off, attacking the Hangleton defense, four minutes into the half Dan Buchanan took a free on our right, played the ball towards their far post, the keeper fumbled the ball and H was sharp enough to tap it in, 2-0 and BBOB were heading towards a win. Both teams were conceding free kicks (Seb Woolf thought he was in a game of push and shove) with Dan Edwards was taking most of the free kicks over on our right. Joe Howard broke down the left, beat a couple of players, lost the ball and in the process of trying to win it back and concede a free kick on their goal line. Dan Edwards, on the right, played one of his free kicks out to Steve on the left, he ran with the ball, passed it to Dan Buchanan, he dribbled the ball into the Hangleton penalty area, shot on goal and had it pushed out by their keeper for a corner. In the 61st minute BBOB concede a free kick just outside our penalty area and to the right, the free kick was played short and then crossed into the middle, it was cleared away by Ben but only as far as a Hangleton player who hit the ball back to score and make it 1-2. BBOB lost concentration and a little bit of panic started to creep in. BBOB conceded another free kick this time on the left of our penalty area, Hangleton shot on goal but it went into the safe hands of Mike. BBOB had two corners in succession over on our right, Ben took the first one, played it low into Seb but he stumbled and could not get his shot away. The second was taken by Dan Buchanan, he played it low to the near post, Ben shot on goal but it hit the post and rebounded away for Hangleton to clear the ball up field. Hangleton then had a couple of free kicks just outside our penalty area, one was heading to the far top left hand corner but Mike pushed it over the cross bar for a corner. In the 75th minute Dan Buchanan took a free kick half way inside the Hangleton half on our right, he hit the ball towards the Hangleton far post but it was an easy save for their keeper. Ben then had a shot from the right which was put out for a corner, Ben took the corner, played it towards Joe Marshal whose shot was cleared up field by Hangleton. Another free kick by Dan Edwards on the right was put into the middle of their box to Seb, he shot on goal but it was parried away by the keeper for a corner to our left. Ben took the corner and played it to Dan Buchanan by the near post where he turned and shot on goal only for it to be cleared away by a Hangleton defender. From a Hangleton attack down their left Paul Barton was left with no option other than to clear the ball away for a corner, the corner was headed away by H but only as far as a Hangleton player, he fired a shot towards goal but Dan Edwards intercepted and cleared it away for another corner on our right, it was played into the middle, cleared by Paul Barton to a Hangleton player who blasted it over the crossbar. Anxious moments for BBOB and it was not helped by Steve, who in the dying minutes of the game passed the ball back into our penalty area, when under pressure from a Hangleton player, to Dan Edwards who had to put it out for a corner, fortunately nothing came of it and it went out for a goal kick. Seb was fouled just inside the Hangleton half, Dan Edwards played the ball into the Hangleton area where it was cleared but only as far as H who hit his shot wide. In the last minute of the game Hangleton hit a shot over the cross bar. A well-deserved win but we must wait until next Saturday for the result of the Diversity v Hangleton game to see if we progress further in this cup.
