A late strike from youngster Matty Adams sealed a place in the third round of the Minor Cup for the Saints as they came from behind to win this hotly anticipated replay. In the first meeting between the teams the game was unfortunately abandoned 10 minutes from the end due to an ugly clash between the two teams which resulted in the referee abandoning the game and both teams knew they would have to be on their best behavior in this replay. The Quay had Carl Mcguire in goal for the first time this season and also gave first starts to Ben Senior and Matty Adams as they looked to bounce back from last weeks 10-0 hammering at AFC Newbiggin. Mcguire showed his class in the opening stages with a brilliant save to deny the Wooler forward as he dived to tip away a fierce strike from the wooler forward as the saints started slowly. And just like the original game it was Wooler who took the lead as striker Luke Strangeways pounced on confusion from the Saints defence to fire past Mcguire and give the enthusiastic home crowd plenty to cheer about. Halfway through the first half the Wooler player at the centre of the trouble in the first game limped off injured after a 50/50 with Saints center half Dale Johnson and with the home side having no substitutes they would have to play an hour with 10 men. The Quay were immediately on top and went close twice just before the interval as first Andy Breheny was denied by the home keeper after latching onto a free kick into the box and then John Foggett's strike from a short corner was deflected wide as the saints ended the half strongly. 15 minutes into the second half the Saints looked for a game changer and brought on Kyle Austin as a makeshift striker as they tried to capitalize on having an extra man. With 20 minutes left the Saints got the equaliser they deserved as a free kick from Ryan Ferrier was met with a perfectly timed volley from Noel Clynch who grabbed his third goal of the campaign and set up a grandstand finish to the cup tie. Wooler then gave the Quay a scare as their forward charged down Mcguire's kick only to see the ball go wide and then at the other end Ferrier missed a great chance to win the game as he fired wide from 8 yards as the game looked to be heading for extra time. However Saints youngster Adams had other ideas and after a surging run his shot from 18 yards found the bottom corner to send the travelling saints fans wild and seal a 3rd round tie away to Red Row Welfare on Saturday.
