After 3 previous failed attempts the Quay finally came back from the long trip to Spittal with 3 points after a hard fought nail biter of a win on the scottish border.
Brandon Williams and Dec King came in for the absent Alex Foreman and Lee Crammond in the two changes from last weeks win over Crammy Town.
The Saints on the back of 7 wins in a row started brightly taking the lead early on 8 minutes with a fine team goal. Sean Conway did some great work down the right before crossing into the box to Brando who controlled before laying the ball into the path of Connor Rafferty and he calmly slotted the ball into the corner for his 3rd goal of the season.
Spittal went close to a leveller when saints keeper Peter Lowery spilled a corner but he reacted brilliantly to keep the ball out with a fine block.
With fifteen minutes on the clock the Quay doubled the lead, another home corner was cleared to Conway who hooked the ball away up the pitch, Under no real pressure a Spittal defender left a headed back pass well short of the keeper leaving Brando clean through on goal and he made no mistake rounding home keeper Beveridge to tap home.
Any thoughts of a routine away win were out of the window a minute later when Lowery was caught on the ball by Spittal youngster Thomas Grey who rolled the ball into the empty net to get his side back in the game.
Grey playing only his third game for the seasiders after turning 16 at the end of last month was having a stormer and he almost dragged his side level when he met a left wing cross with a bullet header from 6 yards that was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Lowery.
Grey then fashioned a great chance for strike partner Craig Bell after a mazy run down the right he slotted a great ball through but Bell's well struck first time effort was kept out by another fine stop from Lowery who diverted the ball wide of the post.
A tough spell in the game for the Saints was then made abit easier just before the break when Joe Connor played a perfectly weighted through ball for Brando to run onto and finish with a quality first time strike from just outside the box, leaving the on rushing keeper no chance.
Two goals ahead at the break the Quay knew the second half was going to be tough with the home side wind assisted and backed on by a decent crowd despite the current world crisis.
The game was almost out of sight when Saints man of the match Rafferty played a wonderful curling ball through for Conway to run onto but his low effort from just inside the box was brilliantly kept out by the feet of Beveridge.
The home sides delivery on set pieces was top draw throughout the game and they got themselves back in the game from one on 68 mins. Sub Paul Wood won a corner that the Quay were adamant was a goal kick and when the corner came over the ball fell into the path of Bell and after a scramble he smashed home to set up a brilliant finish to the game.
Spittal appealed for handball outside the box when Lowery came to claim a long ball but to no avail before the Quay were handed a massive chance to seal the game when Conway was bundled over in the area. Brando stepped up but sent his effort wide slipping as he struck the spot kick to the joy of the Rovers fanbase.
Another great chance fell to Saints to wrap it up when the outstanding Ryan McGorrigan swung in a cracking cross that found Brando who was denied by Beveridge with his first effort before he fired the rebound off the bar with the goal gaping.
A daft few minutes of crazy tackles then ensued with the referee not helping anyone by playing on after a flurry of fouls which saw Dale Hood booked for a cynical tackle. Conway and a Spittal player were booked for wild lunges for before Conway received a second yellow minutes later for a late tackle meaning the Quay would play the final 5 minutes with ten men.
The home side piled men forward for some late set pieces and almost levelled when Lowery dropped a corner and Wood reacted quickest but his goal bound shot was blocked by Saints captain Stephen King on the line in a heart stopping moment for the 11 Quay fans who had made the long trip.
Last season Spittal equalised with the last kick of the game and they almost did it again this time, a free kick from the right finding Wood unmarked but his header went wide of the target from 12 yards, the referee blowing for full time shortly after.
A first ever win in Spittal against a quality young side who played their part in a cracking game, no doubt there is a bright future ahead for the seasiders whose clubhouse with all the old pictures and trophies is an absolute belter!.
A memorable game and a massive win to make it 8 wins in a row for the Quay leaving us 3rd in the table with the visit of top of the table Haltwhistle coming up this Saturday!
