A poor display from the Quay saw the visitors make the long trip to Wallsend a worthwhile one as they scored either side of half time to take the three points.
After Wednesdays morale boosting 4-0 win over bottom side Gateshead Redheugh the Quay were looking to keep the momentum going into Saturdays game and they made the perfect start taking the lead after 8 minutes.
Ryan Ferrier back after an ankle injury swung in a great cross to the back post where Saints top scorer Joe Connor rose highest to head back across the keeper into the corner for his 20th goal of the season.
Connor and Ferrier went so close to scoring wonder goals as they both tried there luck from distance only for the ball to twice fall agonisingly wide of the goal.
At the other end Coundon winger Jak Crocher was causing problems with his pace and his cross into the box on twenty minutes was met by a great volley by forward Barry Shaw but his effort was brilliantly saved by Saints keeper Ellis Burns who pushed the ball wide for a corner.
Shaws strike partner Callum Thompson was next to be denied by the young Saints stopper who dived full stretch to tip a stinging shot from the forward wide of the post.
With Coundon on top the Saints were hoping to hang on to their lead going into the second half but 30 seconds before the break those hopes were dashed, Crocher broke free down the right and sent a cross along the face of goal where Shaw was waiting at the backpost with glee to tap home the equalizer from 2 yards out.
With the game in the balance the Quay started the second half very poor and it was inevitable when Coundon took the lead on the hour mark, A low cross from the left wasn't dealt with by the Saints defence the ball deflected into the path of Crocher who stabbed the ball home from point blank range to put his side ahead.
Mark Henderson came on after a spell out with injury as the Quay tried to get back into the game and they couldn't of went closer as Joe Connor drilled a shot from the edge of the box that looked destined for the top corner but Coundon keeper produced a brilliant finger tip save to deflect the ball onto the post to the frustration of the home side.
With fifteen minutes to go Karl Charlton picked out a great pass to Ferrier who controlled the ball perfectly six yards out but just when he looked certain to score Leeholme defender Peter Gillies produced the tackle of the match sliding back to clear the ball for a corner.
With the Saints throwing players forward looking for a leveller late on Coundon pounced on the counter attack with the pacy Crocher cutting in from the right before smashing a left foot shot off the post with Burns beaten.
Thompson then raced through in the last minute before being denied by another save from Burns who followed up his first clean sheet for the club on Wednesday with another fine display here
A poor display from the Quay as the visitors deservedly took the 3 points hopefully an improved performance will be seen as the Saints take on Wideopen next Saturday
