Willington produced a quality team performance to topple high flying Whitley on a freezing cold day down the coast a win what moves the ever improving Saints side up to 5th in the table well within sight of the promotion places.
The Quay were looking to win back to back Saturday games for the first time this season but were handed the tricky task of playing against a strong wind in the first half and Whitley almost used it to their advantage straight away as a long ball found Adam Whitehead clean through but he was denied by a brilliant save from Saints keeper Luke Ord.
Ross Thirlaway was back for the Saints and he played a huge part in the opening goal as he twisted and turned past the left back before smashing a cross across the face of goal for Dylan Adamson to slide the ball home from 6 yards for his 8th goal of the season.
Adamson almost had a second when Lee Crammond's corner came over but the tall striker was millimetres away from connecting before a Whitley defender almost deflected the ball into his own goal.
Thirlaway was causing Whitley all kind of problems on the right and he was instrumental in the Saints doubling their lead after another mazy run past the left back saw him pick out Joe Connor in the middle and he made no mistake burying his strike right footed from 12 yards past the keeper.
Sean Conway was causing problems of his own down the left hand flank and he was denied by a great save from Whitley keeper Sarginson who got down low to keep out the wingers left footed strike - minutes after Whitley left back Richardson had enough of Thirlaways runs and was booked for a cynical foul on the youngster with Crammond seeing yellow seconds later for bringing down Richardson with a similar foul.
Whitley the top scorers in division two enjoyed there best spell of the game in the last 10 minutes of the half with Saint captain Callum Ancrum coming to the rescue with a last ditch sliding tackle to deny Bay striker Lewis Walker.
The pressure paid off just before the break, Whitley pulling a goal back after a smart passing move found Whitehead and he turned to fire home a strike from just inside the box to set up a massive second half for both sides.
The next goal in the game was crucial and it was the Saints who grabbed it with Adamson pivotal, the big forward controlling the ball before running past a sea of defenders before smashing a shot across goal that was turned into own net by a Whitley Bay defender.
The game was wrapped up from the penalty spot with 20 minutes to go as Connor was brought down after dribbling through on goal, the youngster picked himself up to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot for his 6th goal of the campaign.
The home side only beaten at home once all season couldn't break down the Quay back line with Ancum and Noel Clynch solid in the heart of the Quay defence and veteran Stephen King and youngster Leon Elgie providing great support in the full back positions.
Matty Adams came on for Adamson late on to make his 100th Saints appearance the 23rd player to achieve that feat and he could of had a goal to celebrate his milestone but when Kings cross eluded the Bay back 4 he couldn't quite react to get a head to the ball.
In freezing conditions and near darkness the Quay saw the rest of the game out with ease with midfielder Dan Coleman still as energetic at the last whistle as he was at the first winning tackle after tackle and when a Saints corner was cleared the referee blew for full time with the Willington side line jubilant after a great win.
A trip to Berwick to face Spittal Rovers this Saturday is another huge game for the Quay but after two back to back wins scoring 9 goals in the process they will make the long trip full of confidence.
