St Michaels F C 6 Ridgeway Darts F C 1
St Michaels started the day in top position and were expected to have a goal feast against a struggling Ridgeway Darts team who were bottom of the table. This expectation was further enhanced by the fact that Ridgeway only had 10 players.
In fact it was after only 2 minutes that St Michaels opened the scoring when a shot from Mo Abarak was deflected luckily into the net off Aaron Hughes back. Six minutes later St Michaels were two up when a corner from Adam Fahy was nodded in by Aaron Hughes. Four minutes later it was nearly 3-0 with the Ridgeway keeper tipping a fierce shot from Ronnie Mewes onto the bar.
It was all one way traffic but St Michaels once again allowed their opposition to breakaway to score an undeserved goal and make it 2-1. This only served to spur St Michaels into action and 3 minutes later Arran Amer was fouled in the box and Aaron Hughes stepped up to secure his hat trick from the spot. The first half scoring wasn’t finished and with two minutes to go Adam Fahy crossed for Mo Abarak to tap in and make the half time score 4-1. Whilst scoring 4 goals in a half might look good on paper, St Michaels missed a glut of chances and the score could already have been in double figures.
In the 51st minute with Sam Meade feeling a knock, James Mckerrell came on to replace him with Adam Fahy moving to Centre Back. St Michaels continued to miss chance after chance. After 67 minutes Dan Regan replaced Aaron Hughes and then Lewis Butcher replaced Arran Amer. In the 76th minute St Michaels finally increased their tally when Dan Regan fed Danny Baptiste who made it 5-1 and in the final minutes Dan Regan crossed again to Ronnie Mewes who volleyed the ball in to make the final score 6-1.
Despite the 6-1 score line, this was a disappointing performance by St Michaels against the bottom placed side who played the whole game with only 10 men. They created and missed numerous chances in both halves, albeit dominating the whole of the 90 minutes. Having said that a win is still 3 points which sees St Michaels top of the table with 7 games to go.
Special mentions this week go to Adam Fahy for his 2 assists and also his versatility in playing well both at left back and then Centre back and also Anthony Baptiste who performed very well and played his first full 90 minutes. “Man of the Match” however goes once again to Aaron Hughes for his Hat trick and general skilful play in midfield.
