St Michaels F C 3 Clayton Orient 2 Played on 9th March 2014
St Michaels continued their march into their 3rd Cup semi-final in 3 years with a closely fought contest against a good side from the 1st Division. After a mistake in the Clayton defence Ellis Dack took good advantage and he calmly converted with his left foot. The game was very even and it was not until the 39th minute when a shot from Danny Baptiste was handled in the box and a penalty was awarded. Ellis Dack took and scored the penalty to make the score 2 – 0. On the stroke of half time Ellis Dack completed his hat trick with a superb volley from outside the box to make it 3 – 0 at half time.
Clayton Orient to their credit came out firing at the start of the second half and after only 5 minutes they scrambled a goal to reduce the deficit and 6 minutes later a long ball caught the St Michaels defence out and the score was now 3 – 2. This was now a match once again and there were chances at both ends with the next goal going to be crucial. St Michaels however refused to concede further and held on for a good 3 – 2 victory which puts them into the semi final against a strong Reynolds side who have already beaten St Michaels twice this year.
A good battling performance by all of the St Michaels side but special mentions for Billy Porter at the heart of defence and Jack Jolly with another excellent game at right back. Man of the Match however goes to hat trick hero Ellis Dack.
