St Michaels F C 4 F C Plasma 1 Game played on 23/9/12
St Michaels continued their unbeaten start to the season with a good win against previously unbeaten F C Plasma. The match and the result however was over shadowed by a serious injury to captain Jack Meade who was taken to hospital with a nasty fracture to his leg after 60 minutes of play. All of our thoughts and best wishes go to Jack for a speedy full recovery.
It took St Michaels 10 minutes to adjust to the smaller playing surface which didn’t suit their normal style of play. However a clever free kick from Adam Fahy saw Connor Reardon heading home for his 1st goal for the club. Two minutes later a great shot by Danny Baptiste was well saved by the F C Plasma keeper. St Michaels continued to play well but it was in the 39th minute when they increased their lead, a fine corner by Adam Fahy being headed in by Stuart Bird to make the score 2 – 0. The only other incident was with 3 minutes to go Ben Baptiste was booked after disputing the referee’s decision on a free kick.
H T : 2 0 to St Michaels.
It took just 5 minutes of the second half for St Michaels to increase their lead. A great run and cross by Adam Fahy found Danny Baptiste at the far post who applied his customary tap in to make the score 3 – 0. From the kick off an F C Plasma midfielder was booked for a foul tackle. On the 60th minute the same player went into a tackle with Jack Meade which left the St Michael’s captain on the floor with an injury that every one new was a serious one. An ambulance was called and after about 50 minutes the game restarted with a surprising “Drop” Ball. The referee must have been the only person not to see the blatant foul which should have resulted in the F C Plasma player being sent off.
With 18 minutes remaining another run by Adam Fahy led to him being brought down for a penalty which Ronnie Mewes squandered by blasting over the bar. 10 minutes later good work by James Mckerrell in defence whose fine ball down the wing to Adam Fahy who crossed to Ronnie Mewes to tap in and make amends for his penalty miss, making the score 4 – 0. The only other incident in the match was with 5 minutes to go a mistake in the St Michaels defence led to the F C Plasma forward lobbing over Max Knott to give F C Plasma a consolation goal and making the final score. St Michaels F C 4 F C Plasma 1.
Yet another good performance from St Michaels which keeps their unbeaten run going and was only soured by the injury to Jack Meade. Good performances from James Mckerrell, who had his best game for the club, Tom Pexton, who broke everything up in midfield and did not stop running. But Man of the Match goes to Adam Fahy whose freekicks, corners and crosses led to all of the St Michael’s goals as well as getting the penalty. A great performance by Adam who gave their right back a torrid time and one he will want to forget.
