St Michaels F C 11 Babylon F C 1 Game played on 10/3/13
Due to the numerous injuries suffered of late St Michaels F C started this game with a bare eleven players and no substitutes. They were up against a Babylon side that were on a long unbeaten run and a hard game was expected. This was not to be the case and St Michaels performed brilliantly to record their biggest ever win.
As per the last few weeks St Michaels started brightly and after only 7 minutes Stuart Bird was unlucky to see his shot hit the post. This was forgotten seconds later when a fine shot from the edge of the box from Stuart Bird opened the scoring for St Michaels. On 13 minutes a long range shot from Arran Amer was tipped over the bar. 2 minutes later Arran Amer was in action again and his great cross was headed in by Stuart Bird. 3 minutes later the lead was increased when a great long through ball from Tom Pexton was finely slid into the net by Adam Fahy to make the score 3 – 0.
St Michaels were hungry for more and on 20 minutes a great shot from Stuart Bird was well tipped over the bar. 2 minutes later saw Dan Tarrant cleverly lob over the keeper to make it 4 – 0. Six minutes later Dan Tarrant scored his second with a terrific long range strike. Seconds later a free kick from Adam Fahy was deflected into his own net by a Babylon player. Babylon then had their only spell and after 34 minutes it took a fine save by Harry Graham to keep the score at half time 6 – 0 to St Michaels.
The second half started as the first and it took only 3 minutes for a Stuart Bird pass to see Danny Baptiste score from a tight angle on the right. On 69 minutes Dan Tarrant was denied his first competitive hat trick for the club when his shot unluckily hit the bar. 3 minutes later however a Danny Baptiste cross was converted by Dan Tarrant to rectify this. With 15 minutes remaining Tom Pexton had to leave the field with an injury which meant St Michaels had to finish the game with 10 men.
This did not seem a problem and 3 minutes later Stuart Bird saw his shot hit the post. On 81 minutes another Stuart Bird assist saw Adam Fahy run on goal and convert to make it 9 – 0. Babylon made one rare attack on goal and Harry Graham made another good save. With six minutes to go Dan Tarrant passed to Stuart Bird who completed his hat trick. With a minute to go a silly slip up by St Michaels led to Babylon getting on the score sheet to make it 10 – 1. The final action was still to be St Michaels and in the last minute Danny Baptiste set Stuart Bird up who notched his 4th goal of the game to make the final score a record 11 – 1 to St Michaels.
An emphatic win for St Michaels who now go to the top of the Division. Good performances all across the team with special mentions to Stuart Bird with his 4 goals and Dan Tarrant with his superb first Hat Trick. Man of the Match however goes to Danny Baptiste with a goal and 2 assists from an unfamiliar right wing position. His speed and crossing ability was a constant threat for the Babylon defence. Where he got this speed from no one knows but keep it up Dan.
Next week we face Premier opposition in Crown Alexandra in the Betts Cup Quarter Final.
