The Knights started this match strongly, attacking immediately; Doel and Holloway combined, allowing Holloway the 1st shooting opportunity, but this was well saved by the Typhoons keeper. As the Knights kept applying the pressure, a quickly taken throw-in by Komboni, threatened the Typhoons goal, however, Powell’s effort was deflected away for a corner. Taken by Holloway, the ball drifted over the danger zone where Komboni stood waiting, he let fly a powerful shot but the Typhoons keeper made an excellent save. The Typhoon then started moving the ball around, passing well and advancing towards the Knights goal; as the cross came in Tadd, the Knights keeper reached up to collect the ball, stopping this threat. As the Knights regained control, Komboni, Doel and Holloway moved the ball forward, resulting in a shot by Holloway being cleared by the Typhoons defence. The Typhoon kept the match flowing, forcing the play into the Knights half, Blackbourn, Courtnage and Komboni were holding firm, keeping the Typhoons at bay. Courtnage then released the ball to Powell; he in turn skipped around an advancing Typhoon attacker before sending Holloway charging forward. As Holloway powered forward Doel and Powell joined him in support; Holloway turned and feed the ball to Powell, who shooting from distance, tested the Typhoons keeper, who was up for the challenge, and saved his shot well. The Typhoons then mounted an all out attack, forcing Courtnage and Blackbourn to concede a corner. The corner was taken short and the ball laid back for a long range effort which was saved by Tadd; Tadd then lofted the ball forward and Holloway took off, chasing the ball down before shooting wide of the mark. The Typhoons still looked dangerous, and within a few moments of the Knights narrowly missing at one end of the pitch, a shot by a Typhoon attacker just drifted over the bar at the other. The Knights never gave up chasing the ball, and were rewarded with a corner; taken by Holloway and collected by Doel who released Powell but his effort went wide. This seemed to spur the Typhoons into action and they were soon on the attack; a quickly taken shot was goal bound but Tadd rushed out to save. However, he was unable to keep hold of the ball and the first to react was a Typhoon attacker, who seized the opportunity to score the opening goal. From the re-start Hooper, Komboni and Choularton linked play to send Holloway forward, and as the high looping ball entered the Typhoons area their keeper stretched and managed to push the ball away to safety; this was the last action of the half.
As the 2nd half got underway, the Knights forced the play and were awarded a throw-in; taken by Komboni for Holloway to chase, Holloway collected the ball but had his back facing the goal. Without hesitation Holloway flicked the ball goal-ward, over his own head, which cleared the keeper, and was heading towards the back of the net. A Typhoon defender rushed in and tried to clear the ball away, but was unable, slicing the ball into his own net, unlucky Typhoons; from this moment on, the Knights kept up the pressure, looking for another goal. Hooper, Powell, Doel and Holloway all had shots on target, but the Typhoons keeper was alert to the danger, saving or punching the ball away. Later, from another well taken throw-in by Komboni, a Typhoon defender appeared to handle the ball, inside his penalty area, but this wasn’t seen by the referee; and with time running out, the Knights pushed forward, looking for that winning goal. Shots from Doel, Holloway and Hooper ensured that the Typhoons keeper was kept busy, but that didn’t stop the Typhoons from mounting a few attacks of their own, but the defensive team of Blackbourn, Choularton and Courtnage put pay to their advances. In the dying seconds of the match, with the Knights committed in attack, the Typhoons managed to clear the ball up-field; a lone striker let loose a powerful goal-bound shot, which Tadd pushed away for a corner. There wasn’t enough time left for the Typhoons to press home this advantage, and the match ended in a draw; all that remained now was who should be awarded man of the match. The decision was made by the parents, and each one nominated Komboni, for the way he contributed in defence and attack, giving the Knights many goal scoring opportunities, which on another day, would have allowed the Knights to walk away as victors.
