This was the first match of the new season, both Haslemere and the Knights wanted to start with a win. Straight from the kick-off, Haslemere forced their way forward putting the Knights defence of Blackbourn, Courtnage and Holloway under pressure, but all these players dealt well with the early pressure. Courtnage cleared the ball up-field to Borachan who collected the ball and skipped passed a Haslemere defender before releasing the ball to Holloway, who, without hesitating fired in a powerful shot which beat the Haslemere keeper and ended up in the back of the net, opening the scoring for the Knights. From the re-start the Knights mid-field of Doel, Greenaway and Hooper kept the pressure on the Haslemere defence, firing in shot after shot, keeping the Haslemere keeper very busy. During another Knights attack, Holloway raced down the left wing, crossing the ball for Doel, whose shot went just wide of the goal. Haslemere quickly turned defence into attack forcing Komboni to concede a corner; the resulting corner was dealt with by Tadd, the Knights keeper, who released the ball to Borachan, who in turn passed to Hooper; Hooper saw Doel out on the right, and passed the ball quickly to him. Doel meet the ball at full speed firing home the Knights 2nd goal of the match. With only minutes remaining Courtnage ventured up-field and quickly took aim at the Haslemere goal, beating the keeper but not the post, which saved Haslemere from being 3 down at half-time.
As the 2nd half started, Haslemere launched an all out attack which was well dealt with by Blackbourn, Greenaway and Komboni. A well worked pass from Blackbourn out of defence released Borachan who skipped pass a player before releasing the ball for Holloway to chase; Holloway collected the ball and flew down the left wing, before crossing the ball into the danger area. The Haslemere keeper came to collect the ball but because of the wet conditions the ball slipped out of his hands and into the net, 3-0 to the Knights. The Knights then starting mounting attack after attack, but Haslemere rallied together to deny the Knights a scoring opportunity; from a drop kick by Tadd, the Knights keeper, Courtnage was able to have a shot a goal, but his powerful effort was just wide of the post. The resulting goal kick allowed Haslemere to rush forward and overwhelm the Knights defence, allowing a lone Haslemere striker free to fire the ball into the Knights goal. With only a few minutes remaining Blackbourn cleared the ball up-field where Holloway quickly passed it to Borachan, without hesitation Borachan fired in a powerful shot but the Haslemere keeper was up to the challenge and saved the ball. Within moments of this, further shots from Courtnage, Doel, Greenaway and Hooper were either saved or just wide of the Haslemere goal. Without any further goal scoring opportunities for each team the match was brought to an end; both teams played well throughout the match but the Knights were just too good on the day; Blackbourn, playing in defence for the Knights impressed the Manager with his overall performance on the pitch, which earned him the man of the match award.
